April Building Energy Simulation Forum: Defining the Standard of Care for Energy Modelers – An Overview of ASHRAE Standard 209
ASHRAE Standard 209, Energy Simulation Aided Design for Buildings, aims to establish new, minimum requirements for providing energy design assistance using building energy simulation and analysis. Standard 209 does not describe a new procedure for developing a baseline, or how to rate your building against others. Rather, it attempts to better define the role of the energy modeler and energy analysis within the design process. To minimally comply with the Dtandard, building project teams will be required to evaluate energy efficiency options using modeling earlier in the design process (schematic design). It also describes analysis activities from early concept development to post-occupancy. This presentation provides an overview of how the Standard is structured, its key requirements, and its anticipated role in the industry.
